From the Underground: Visioning Session for 227 Abolitionist Place

  • Lefferts Historic House 452 Flatbush Avenue Brooklyn, NY, 11225 United States (map)

Historians, archivists, and community members join us in a collective conversation about the future of 227 Abolitionist Place. Together, we’ll explore the vital role this historic home can play in preserving and uplifting our shared stories. This is a space to reflect, imagine, and shape how 227 Abolitionist Place will serve as a living archive, a gathering place, and a beacon of memory, justice, and cultural legacy for generations to come.

We are committed to documenting the deep connections between 227 Abolitionist Place, the Underground Railroad, and the broader liberation movement, ensuring these powerful stories are never forgotten. At the same time, the site will serve as a coordinating hub for landmarks of freedom across the city, fostering collaboration, education, and collective memory. Most importantly, it will stand as a steadfast guardian of Downtown Brooklyn’s Black history—honoring the past, uplifting the present, and inspiring future generations.
